Jun. 2nd, 2011 11:29 pmIn April, we went to Florida for Spring Break. We went there because Goofy was on there for a business trip, which meant we could save one round-trip airfare. Goofy and Max both love WDW, so it's a no-brainer as far as they're concerned.
Not so much me.
This summer, after Max's school lets out, we have a couple of weeks with him at home and then he goes to his grandparents for the rest of the summer. He gets adult family who love and aren't completely fed up with him, they get in-depth time with him (and his cousin) without interfering parents, and we get weeks of childlessness. Everybody wins.
Since I haven't been to their house since '06, I decided it was time for me to go with them this year. The plan was that we'd spend the first half of the week just the three of us and then take him and his cousin down, incidentally taking both boys to see DH2. (Another everyone wins. Both boys want to see it, but their grandparents couldn't care less. Goofy and I, on the other hand, have every intention of seeing it, so.)
But where do we spend our time? Goofy and I have been kicking around ideas and, although I wouldn't mind doing any of them (and we probably will), none of them really excited me. After this spring, Goofy wanted something I reacted to with more enthusiasm than "Sounds fine to me."
Goofy is the vacation planner of the family. (Too many options; I get distracted and fed up. He plays.) He took a comment of mine (about one-price resorts), the fact that he's been doing way too much traveling so he has lots of frequent flyer miles and hotel stays, the fact that we both enjoy cruises, and the fact that we've discussed an Alaska cruise as something we both want to do. So, for ten days this summer, that's what we're going to do.
We're flying to San Francisco on frequent flyer miles, spending the night, getting on the ship and sailing to Alaska. Ten days later, we return to San Francisco and will have whatever is left of the day after we disembark (a little sight-seeing). Another night, two flights and we'll be home. With luck, we'll be relaxed and ready for the impending school year.
I'm not excited. Nope. Not me.
