Jack's status in Miracle Day

I wonder, was Jack truly made mortal, or is he just like everyone else?

Since no one can die, is it just that Jack can continue as he is without the super healing because he will eventually heal from whatever happens to him. Could it be that he won't die, any more than anyone else, but that since no one is dying, the Vortex has decided to take a break and let nature and man's intervention, take its course?
