OK, I put in the cut tags so I don't accidentally spoil anyone.
RIVER IS AMY AND RORY'S LITTLE GIRL!!!
Now, that's out.
It wasn't that huge of a surprise, to be honest. With all of the build-up of "Who is River?" and "Amy's Schrodinger pregnancy" and "Time Head" and "regenerating little girl", it really is the most logical conclusion. I have to admit that, for a little while, I was afraid they were going to leave that revelation for autumn. When the TARDIS faded out, Goofy, who hates cliffhangers with a true passion and only watched tonight because he'd already seen the ending of last week's episode so he had to know what happens next, said, "That'll be where they end it." And I thought he was right because that's the way these things go. And I was hating it.
And then they carried on through the revelation. I'd been wondering if Idris!TARDIS's comment/warning about "The only water in the Forest is the River" might be River, and it was. And there we are.
I found the Doctor as General gathering his troops/friends interesting, and well-foreshadowed throughout the last two seasons. Rory as Nurse to the Doctor's Doctor? Centurion to Mighty Warrior? Interesting thoughts.
What it all comes down to? I loved the episode. My favorite of the season (and perhaps of the series) is The Doctor's Wife, but this is my second favorite of this season. (Admittedly, it hasn't been a season of enjoyable episodes in my opinion, but the good ones are out of this world.)
And now we have to wait months for the next episode.
I'll eventually write a saner, more reasoned commentary. Someday. Not tonight.
